Two days before the Palarong Pambansa 2024 officially kicks off, Reverend Father Ronaldo O. Sagnoy delivered an inspiring message to the Caraga delegation, led by the Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion, CESO IV, along with the regionโs schools division superintendents and assistant superintendents, during the special mass held on July 7 at Lahug Elementary School and Lahug National High School.
In a heartfelt homily, Rev. Fr. Sagnoy's words filled the hall and resonated deeply in the hearts of the athletes, coaches, and officials on a Sunday morning: "Pray to come out better and stronger," he urged, setting the tone for the upcoming national competitions.
He further encouraged the delegation to use prayer as a source of strength, especially when facing challenges and embracing the obstacles they may face with faith and determination.
Moreover, he reminded the athletes that their journey to becoming champions began long before the competition. He highlighted the significance of preparation and mindset in achieving success. "Ang pagka champion nimo started during your training," he shared, underscoring the importance of their hard work and dedication leading up to the event.
Acknowledging the possibility of defeat, he urged the athletes to move forward and not dwell on setbacks. Drawing inspiration from tennis legend Roger Federer, he added, "When you lose every second point, on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot. When you're playing a point, it is the most important thing in the world. But when it's behind you, it is behind you. This mindset is really crucial because it frees you to fully commit to the next point and the next one after that with intensity, clarity, and focus. That to me is the sign of a champion."
During the mass, Fr. Sagnoy shared his heartfelt intentions with the attendees. "Kadaogan sa tibuok Caraga Region, ug kalampusan sa palaro, walay injuries, maayong panglawas, condition kanunay ug mag-enjoy ta sa Palaro," he declared with optimism, emphasizing victory, good health, and the joy of participation for the entire Caraga region.
The Lahug Elementary School and Lahug National High School faculty, staff, and other teachers from other schools within the division served as the choir members, while other DepEd Caraga officials as the lectors and commentators.
As the Caragold athletes, coaches, and officials left the hall, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and unity. The Palarong Pambansa 2024, set to officially kick off on July 9, promises to be a celebration of athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Fr. Sagonoy's blessings and words of wisdom provided the delegation with the spiritual strength and motivation needed to excel in their respective events.
